ABOUT ME

Let's start off with the easy points.

I'm not an academic.

I left school at 15.

I had no qualifications.

I've failed more than succeeded. I learned from those stumbles.

I had various careers from entry level roles and manual work before moving to local and national government positions.

Somehow, I had this desire in the back of my mind to go into higher education. So seven years ago, I enrolled in a university backed  access course  for two years. This resulted in my first ever academic qualification. I thought the time had passed for me to go further, however we all know how life can change in a flicker. The opportunity opened. Less work and more time. So I've taken the plunge and applied for an undergraduate degree course at University.

I know I'm going to sit with kids younger than my children. Perhaps I can learn something from them and they can learn from me too.

The purpose of this blog is to document my journey, my thoughts, the problems I'm sure that will reveal themselves over the coming years(s). I may not get there. I may not survive. That imposter syndrome may overwhelm me. The inferiority complex that drives my fears may disrupt my ability to study and succeed. But, I'm going to try.

I would like others to hear my story. There's not much direct commentary for the over sixties at university that's accessible, even on the internet. If my story encourages and informs others that share my desire then I have achieved something.

This may take a while to build and catalogue the journey. It won't be all things to all people. I just hope it offers some insight and enjoyment.
